Jharkhand HC questions Bokaro SP on missing girl case; Considers CBI involvement due to ongoing failures

Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court on Thursday pulled up Bokaro SP for failing to trace a missing girl and questioned why the case should not be handed over to the CBI.A division bench of Justices Sujit Narayan Prasad and Sanjay Prasad were hearing a petition filed by one Rekha Devi, who claimed her 18-year-old daughter is missing. The Court questioned the Bokaro SP who had appeared through virtual mode. The SP informed the court that the police have conducted rates at different places in Bokaro to trace the girl. One person has also been arrested whose narco analysis test is pending.The court observed that the girl has been missing from July 31 2025, and yet there has been no trace of her. Though the FIR has been registered at Pindrajoda Police Station in Bokaro, no concrete steps have been taken to recover the victim, the bench observed. The SP informed the court that Rekha received a call in Dec 11 stating that her daughter was in Pune. A police team accompanied with the father of the victim went to Pune but could not race the victim. The police instead nabbed the person who had made the call to the mother of the victim. The caller, who was being brought to Bokaro, managed to give the cops a slip and fled. The case will again be heard on March 20.The bench in course of hearing observed that in another case a victim girl has been missing from 2020 in Bokaro. Subsequently in 2021, it was known that the victim has been murdered, but there has been no trace of her body. Such instances of victims becoming traceless is very serious, the judges observed.HC briefThe Jharkhand High Court on Thursday issued a non bailable warrant against one Mohammed Abdul Hakim. The court had earlier directed Hakim to appear in person in a case filed by one Akhtari Khatoon who’s son has been missing. Despite orders of the court, Abdul Hakim failed to appear before the High Court today after which a non bailable warrant has been issued against him. The division bench ordered the Chatra superintendent of police to arrest Hakim and produce him before the court on April 1.
